The flake marks buzz-gpui and buzz-gpui-voltage as Linux-only. A macOS developer cannot install the Voltage app (Remote workspace agents) through Nix, and the devShell does not load on macOS. To build on a Mac, a developer must install the GStreamer framework, find a Rust toolchain, and run cargo by hand.

crates/app/Cargo.toml: the new runtime-shaders feature turns on gpui-pre-macos/runtime_shaders. The flake enables it on Darwin only. scripts/package-macos.sh does not enable it, so the DMG build is unchanged.
The devShell uses the package's buildInputs.
voltage/remote-agents.md: step 1 says that the developer needs only Nix, and shows nix run and nix-darwin installation.
After this change, a macOS developer runs:
nix run 'github:voltagecloud/buzz?dir=apps/buzz-gpui#buzz-gpui-voltage'
Validation
nix build .#buzz-gpui-voltage on aarch64-darwin: passes. bin/buzz-backend-relay is next to the app, and Node and the 7 plugins are where the app finds them.
Started the built app on macOS: the window renders with runtime shaders, the 7 bundled plugins load, and the agent host starts.
nix eval of the package and the devShell for aarch64-darwin and x86_64-linux: passes.
Limits
I did not build on Linux. The Linux derivation changes only in the postInstall text, which has the same commands.
The flake marked buzz-gpui and buzz-gpui-voltage as Linux-only, so a
macOS developer could not install the Voltage app through Nix.
Gate the Linux-only inputs (Wayland, X11, Vulkan, ALSA, fontconfig,
LD_LIBRARY_PATH, the .desktop file and icons) on Linux. On Darwin, turn
on a new runtime-shaders feature, so GPUI compiles its Metal shaders at
launch instead of with Xcode's xcrun, which Nix does not provide.
The GPUI Nix package now supports Darwin with platform-specific libraries, build configuration, and runtime shader settings. The installation instructions cover Nix use on Linux and macOS, including macOS-specific behavior.
The app adds an optional macOS dependency and a feature that enables its runtime shader support.
Nix platform configuration and usage apps/buzz-gpui/flake.nix, voltage/remote-agents.md
The flake configures libraries, build inputs, runtime shader features, wrapper behavior, package metadata, and the development shell by platform. The documentation adds Nix run and installation instructions for Linux and macOS, and describes macOS notification behavior.
voltagecloud/buzz#87: This PR adds macOS flake build support and installation guidance, but does not implement the requested signed installers.
Possibly related PRs
voltagecloud/buzz#91: It includes the same runtime shader feature, platform-specific flake changes, and macOS installation documentation.
voltagecloud/buzz#85: It includes overlapping macOS build and Nix installation changes alongside separate ChatGPT login work.

Merge Risk: Low · up to b5650
The macOS Nix package build is covered, but the documented nix develop and cargo run workflow still needs Xcode on a Mac. Pass the runtime-shaders feature in the macOS development instructions or devShell. This is a bounded developer-workflow gap with an easy workaround and does not affect the packaged app or Linux.

# macOS Pinyin candidate popup survives focus transfer to a dialog #3605
## Description
yeagoo
opened on Oct 19, 2026
Issue body actions
## Summary
On macOS, a native Simplified Chinese Pinyin candidate popup can survive transferring focus from a Kit `Input` to a dialog. The dialog is visible, but the old conversion session can consume the next keyboard command.
## Verified environment
* macOS 13.6, Apple Silicon
* Simplified Chinese Pinyin (`com.apple.inputmethod.SCIM.ITABC`)
* `gpui-kit`, `gpui-base`, `gpui-component`, `gpui-kit-assets`, `gpui-component-macros`: 0.7.1
* `gpui-pre`, `gpui-pre-macos`: 0.3.8
* Rust 1.96.0
Please preserve the full locked matrix: a fresh dependency on only `gpui-kit = "=0.7.1"` can resolve compatible component dependencies to 0.7.2.
## Minimal reproduction
The example uses only Kit and `std`; it does not initialize application services, persistence, or file access. Public source: https://github.com/web-casa/ImgConvert/blob/main/apps/gpui/crates/shell/examples/g2_ime_repro.rs

<title>GPUI · Native Shell</title>
<location>https://nsh.dev/docs/gpui/</location>
<excerpt>citeturn0search1 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: today; * macOS, Windows or Linux, with a GPU GPUI can draw with (Metal on macOS, DirectX on Windows, Vulkan on Linux).
* On macOS, building your GPUI app or the runtime from a checkout uses Xcode’s Metal Toolchain (`xcodebuild -downloadComponent MetalToolchain`), which compiles GPUI’s shaders ahead of time. ... * On Linux: a Vulkan driver, Wayland or X11 with `libxkbcommon`, GTK 3 and WebKitGTK 4.1 (web views) and GStreamer 1.20 or later with its base and good plug-ins (videos).
* One element per surface. A surface is one GPUI element that fills the space its parent gives it and paints the whole view tree with GPUI’s primitives: quads, shadows, paths, glyphs and images. NSH keeps one retained view per node, as on Windows, and redraws only when a commit changed something.
* Text is shaped on the engine thread with GPUI’s text system (the app’s own fonts), broken into lines by NSH; the main thread only paints the glyphs.
* One hop per commit. The engine runs on its own thread; each commit is one closure sent to GPUI’s main thread, which notifies the view.
* Input comes from GPUI’s mouse, scroll, key and input method events; hit testing, presses, the responder system, scrolling and text editing are the same logic as the Windows backend’s.
## #Requirements
* macOS, Windows or Linux, with a GPU GPUI can draw with (Metal on macOS, DirectX on Windows, Vulkan on Linux).
* On macOS, building your GPUI app or the runtime from a checkout uses Xcode’s Metal Toolchain (`xcodebuild -downloadComponent MetalToolchain`), which compiles GPUI’s shaders ahead of time. On a Mac without it, `nsh run` builds the runtime with GPUI’s `runtime-shaders` feature and say so: the shaders are compiled when the app starts (a fraction of a second the first time, cached by macOS after that).
* On Linux: a Vulkan driver, Wayland or X11 with `libxkbcommon`, GTK 3 and WebKitGTK 4.1 (web views) and GStreamer 1.20 or later with its base and good plug-ins (videos). Web views need X11: on a Wayland desktop run the app under Xwayland (`WAYLAND_DISPLAY=` empty), else they show a placeholder. Building the runtime from a checkout also needs the development packages; on Debian and Ubuntu:
`sudo apt-get install clang libclang-dev pkg-config libfontconfig-dev libfreetype-dev libwayland-dev libx11-xcb-dev \
libxcb1-dev libxkbcommon-dev libxkbcommon-x11-dev libzstd-dev libvulkan1 libgtk-3-dev libwebkit2gtk-4.1-dev \
libgstreamer1.0-dev libgstreamer-plugins-base1.0-dev gstreamer1.0-plugins-good`

Enable runtime shaders in the macOS development workflow.
The macOS devShell does not enable runtime-shaders, and the README runs Cargo without that feature. The macOS build can therefore use Xcode's xcrun metal, which fails when Xcode is not installed.
Document the macOS-specific command or configure the devShell to enable the feature:

Approving.
Checked:
Linux behaves the same. gpuiArgs.buildInputs has the same set as before (runtimeLibs ++ playback ++ zstd ++ vulkan-headers ++ alsa-lib), the wrapper still adds LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and .desktop/icons still install. They just move into the isLinux block.
gpui-pre-macos 0.3.8 has a runtime_shaders feature (the crates.io feature list maps it to gpui_apple/runtime_shaders). The dependency is optional and only for macOS targets, so Linux and Windows resolution doesn't change, and the --locked CI checks pass.
Nothing builds with --all-features, and scripts/package-macos.sh doesn't turn the feature on, so the DMG still uses Xcode-compiled shaders.
On Darwin, the empty optionalString line in wrapProgram leaves only a whitespace continuation, which is harmless.
Optional: on macOS, a plain cargo build inside nix develop still runs xcrun metal, so without Xcode it fails unless the developer passes --features runtime-shaders. One line in the README, or turning the feature on in the devShell, would save a Mac developer that surprise. (You noted you didn't enter the devShell.)
